How to play
  • Type pinyin with no tone marks (e.g. shi, pingguo).
  • The IME bar opens with 5 Hanzi — only one is correct for the on-screen meaning.
  • Press 1–5 to commit. Wrong slot clears the bar; right slot destroys.
  • Same pinyin AND same Hanzi on multiple enemies = combo destroy.
  • Miss 5 Hanzi to the bottom and the run ends.

Most Mandarin tools teach you to recognize characters. Almost none train the speed at which you recognize them — and reading speed is where most learners stall.

We've spent a combined 30+ years learning Mandarin the long way: classroom, immersion, flashcards, graded readers, the works. Every one of us hit the same wall: the SRS vocab grind that stands between HSK 4 and real reading fluency takes years, and the daily drill is where motivation goes to die. You know the reps work. You also know you're going to skip them tomorrow.

Hanzi Rain is the drill we wish we'd had during those years. Characters fall, you type pinyin, you commit before they land. Over thousands of reps, recognition gets faster, then unconscious.
